This restaurant serves delicious Thai cuisine with excellent coconut-based desserts. I particularly enjoyed the Hoy Tod--a rare find at many Thai restaurants--and the mango salad, which was fresh and flavorful. The Tom Yum soup was a bit sweeter than expected but still quite tasty. The restaurant is small, but the service is impressively quick and attentive. A great spot for quite authentic Thai flavorful dishes!
This was a fortunate stroke of luck for us. We couldn't find parking on Woodside Ave so as we walked towards our original destination, we happed to see Khao Nom's menu which looked great. Thankfully we decided to stay here, because the food was absolutely delicious. Everything that we ordered was both visually pleasing and tasty. The restaurant itself was cool - our table seemed to be a repurposed sewing machine table. If you're looking to get past the staples of Thai food and try something new, this is your spot!
Delicious and affordable food with authentic Thai flavors. Wide variety of dishes available. Easy to find with convenient roadside parking. Rare Thai desserts are also offered.
I freaking love this place! Really reasonable pricing for extremely delicious food. Absolutely love their desserts. Everything slaps, especially the custard over black sticky rice. Amazing texture and warm. The food is also very good! We went back to try their main dishes and the noodles are great. Would love to go back and try more. They don't have too much seating but they seem to do a lot of take out, especially their dessert goods. The people who work there are also super nice.
This place is freaking amazing. First time ever in little Thailand. Absolutely delicious! Get the yellow curry noodles. Both soft and crunchy noodles. Really great mouth feel. People come here just for the desserts and I see why. They are delicious and not too sweet. I would 100/10 come back again. Discount for cash, but they do take credit card
Layout of the restaurant was changed, placing the kitchen and counter now on one end. Space was tighter, esp with the windows closed. I had my back close to a dessert shelf and staff had to walk behind me a lot. Brought some of my family here that day. Although I do like the food, some of them didn't. I noted they have different sauces in their dishes, so not like other Thai food we've had, but I don't mind.
Everything we got was amazing!! Since it's on the lane with so many other Thai restaurants Khao Nom still manages to stand out!! They specialize more in appetizers and rice dishes here as well as their dessert menu. Tip: if windows are open and you're sitting by there, don't have your bag/ phone so close to it where someone can steal / run with it bc that happened to someone here before which the waitress was giving us this advice. Super helpful and thankful for her on the heads up!! They also give you a wide range of home made Thai sauces which were also great but didn't like that it was on the sweeter side of the spectrum We got: - crispy tofu skin 4.5/5: enjoyed this a lot, skin was perfectly crispy and very meaty, could've been a 5/5 if the sauced it paired with was more sour than sweet - corn fritters 4/5: not sure if this dish was always around but I've seen this at more Thai restaurants more often nowadays and if it was my first time eating it maybe i would've been more impressed. But fried corn fritters here were too fried and can taste the oil but the sauce makes it better. But still sweet here too - spring rolls 4.5/5: these were sooooo good, easily a 5/5 if the sauce was made better! Crispy, juicy, meaty, and flavorful! - pork belly and rice 4.5/5: soo good too, the pork belly here actually paired with the sauce very nicely! - Thai ice tea 5/5: perf milk to condense milk ratio We were also so sad the pandan dessert was sold out!! Will def come back to try that next time.
Food: The food is delicious here! Every dish is packed with flavor and authentic. The Tom Yum Noodle Soup was particularly flavorful and comes with so much shrimp, pork, and fishballs. The broth was amazing! The pork skewers were big and well marinated. It comes with a fish sauce based dipping sauce which adds a nice touch. The fried rice was also great! Many people come in just for the desserts at the takeout desert counter. They have so many different authentic and traditional Thai desserts including taro balls in coconut milk which was excellent but a bit on the sweeter side. Their dessert counter seemed extremely popular. There was a constant stream of customers coming in just for their desserts throughout our meal. Service: Service was exceptional. We waited about 15 minutes for a table, and the staff kept coming outside to provide us with an update on our table and even offered us chairs to sit on while we waited. They were very appreciative of us waiting for a table. Staff were attentive and friendly and kept checking on us throughout the meal. Very welcoming and friendly staff! Ambiance: The place is small but can accommodate one large group at a time with smaller groups around the perimeter of the restaurant. The place was packed when we arrived which we knew was a good sign. It's worth the wait for a table! Seating is comfortable even though the restaurant is small. Overall, I would highly recommend this place!
It may be easy to miss Khao Nom since it's on the side street, off of Woodside Avenue where there are many other Thai restaurants. Khao Nom is small inside and a casual vibe. Service was good, staff was friendly enough. The menu was quite extensive, with photos alongside the menu items. The food was delicious! We started off with the Tod Mun Pla (Fish cakes). They were good and the dipping sauce made the dish imho. I got the Kuay Tiew Pad Cha Talay, a seafood noodle dish. The noodles were mushy, and tasted a tad overcooked, but were still good. My friend ordered the Khao Son, which is a huge portion, and much cheaper than the Thai restaurants in Manhattan, so that was a plus. Some of our dishes came with a side of broth, which was honestly my favorite part of the meal. It was so flavorful!! There is a 3% upcharge if you pay with card rather than cash.
